Hello, Dolly: 72-year-old American anti-style icon

Today Dolly is 72 years old, she has more than six hundred songs and two entries in the Guinness Book of Records for the highest number of hits in the US charts. But the public is attracted not only by her songs but also by an extremely bright and memorable appearance.

Although Dolly Parton writes country-style songs and as a singer is not particularly popular outside the States, her image is quite recognizable in the world. Not least due to the large size of the bust, which looks especially impressive in combination with miniature growth.

If there were a rating of tasteless dressing celebrities, Dolly would certainly be in the top ten. At the very beginning of her stage activity, the singer wore much more calmly: traditional country-style jeans and checkered shirts were often her concert outfits. But as the career progressed, the stage image became brighter, more noticeable, until Parton did not build herself the title of queen of kitsch with the help of lace and rhinestones.

Perhaps, the fault is a humble childhood in all respects. In a family with twelve brothers and sisters, most likely, there was nothing to rely on chic dresses. In addition, Dolly's grandfather was a pastor, and her first speeches were at church. Where for certain talented and vociferous girls tried to instill humility and restraint, which should have been manifested in appearance.

Who knows, perhaps it is this lack of brightness and beautiful outfits that caused the more popular the singer, the higher in the lines of ratings her songs appeared - the more attention she tried to attract to herself and her appearance. Denim jackets, embroidered with beads, and cleavage dresses tightly wrapped around a magnificent chest. Chest, about which naturalness in the tabloids unfolded the hottest debate.

And although her outfits in the same tabloids repeatedly became objects of devastating articles by fashion critics, Dolly herself was accused of vulgarity and lack of taste - the country diva herself admitted that she consciously builds just such a stage image. "It is very expensive - look as cheap as I am," she said in an interview. And it seems that she made the right bet on this “cheapness”.

Bleached curls, laid in a high styling, excessive eyeliner on the eyelids, bright lips with prominent contour and gloss-gloss-gloss - this image is very well sold. If we look at American shows with all sorts of little “miss”, if we look at provincial beauty contests, we see that the above-mentioned details are components of primitive ideas about beauty somewhere in the Texas province. Dolly knew who her main audience was and how she liked it. She coped with this task one hundred percent.

Today, when the famous singer is over seventy, she still loves deep plunging neckline and tight dresses. She still adorns her outfits with a large number of rhinestones and sparkles, and she puts on strip-teaser platform shoes on television broadcasts. And we can condescendingly laugh at her love for everything that is transparent and brilliant. But there are in her style of dressing at least two things that we should learn. The first is the talent to guess the tastes of those you want to impress. And the second is the ability to remain true to your style, even if someone does not like it.
